Michigan HR Day 2024 is April 10th, 2025

The 2024 Michigan HR Day event is April 10, 2025 and the planning committee is searching for two interns to be part of the 2024 efforts to continue the largest HR conference in Michigan.  In addition to the internship, the selected candidates will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship for continued education (i.e. tuition support or similar).

Eligibility for the internship/scholarship is:

  • Current college student attending a Michigan university or college. Preference may be given to a student who is in their junior or senior year. 
  • Major or minor areas of study should be human resources or another study related to the nature of the work of human resources. 
  • If applying for the IT Internship, please provide a description of the IT work you have performed and how that work relates to an event such as Michigan HR Day.
  • Applicants must send a resume, cover letter and a video to bmanning@umich.edu before January 15, 2025.

Job Description:

The Michigan HR Day board is composed of a diverse group of human resources professionals covering many industries and sectors across Michigan.  The role of the interns will be to work alongside each board member to help coordinate planning efforts for the 2025 event.  This year we will be looking for two Interns.  While both will be fully engaged in the areas of marketing, sponsorship outreach, event services, and many others, one may be named our IT Intern and will primarily be focused on coordinating informational technological efforts of the 2025 event including assisting with the Michigan HR website.     

Time Commitment:

Time Commitment: The selected candidates will begin in January 2025. The committee meets bi-weekly, remote via video, every other week from noon-1pm. Additional meetings are held depending on planning efforts. The interns will be expected to call in for the bi-weekly committee meetings whenever possible and any additional meetings that are necessary. The interns are expected to be present at the day of the event, April 10, 2025, starting at set up early in the morning through the teardown of the event in the late afternoon.

Selection Criteria:

The selected candidate will be based on their resume, cover letter writing, as well as communication and presentation skills in the video.  The video sample in the application should be no longer than 5 minutes and focus on the following:  (1) What drives you to pursue a career in the field of Human Resources.  (2) Why are you the right fit for this internship opportunity.  (3) What will you be able to offer (such as skill set or experiences) to Michigan HR Day.
